Why are men fascinated by women’s breasts?

by Mr Answer Man
Mr Answer Man replies

The commonly held myth is that the male obsession with those two mounds of soft flesh is a direct result of being breast-fed as little boys. While this contributes in part to our fascination, how do you explain a man who was bottle-fed as a baby and who grew up to have pictures of Cindy Crawford plastered over his bedroom wall? So obviously there’s something more at play here.

Without stating the obvious, the thing about breasts is that they are such a visible part of a woman’s body.

Current fashion trends especially lean heavily towards clothes that accentuate the cleavage, and I reckon that if men’s penises were constantly on show, poking provocatively out of pair of trousers, women would be as fascinated with them as men are with boobs. And let’s face it, breasts – whatever their size or shape – are generally more aesthetically pleasing than a pink, veiny willy any day.

Besides, popular culture has always celebrated larger breasted women as sexual icons. During the past four decades alone, Marilyn Monroe, Sam Fox, Madonna and Pamela Anderson have all borne out the equation that breasts equal sex appeal. And usually the bigger the bosom, the stronger the sexual signals being sent out.

But breasts aren’t the be all and end all of a woman’s sex appeal – a nice smile, a sense of humour and a warm personality are just as attractive as a pair of 36Ds in a push-up bra.
