How long should I wait?
Dear Sally Ann
I recently went on the most wonderful date with a man I've admired for a long time. I gave him my number and didn't take his (to avoid the temptation of calling him when drunk). He said he'd call, but a week has now gone by and I haven't heard from him. How long should I wait before realising he's really not interested? We had such a good date - I can't understand why he wouldn't want to meet again.

Ah, the question of why hasn't he called - one of the great mysteries of the universe. I think you've already realised that this man isn't going to ring you. You can expect to hear from an interested party within one to three days after a successful date. After that, you can bet that he has other interests to pursue. Or, it simply means that the date was more thrilling for you than for him.

You did very well to resist taking his phone number. This is the first principle of dating, so you already know more than most people. This will stand you in good stead as you set about finding someone else to go out with. If this guy should ever show up again, be watchful. There is already an imbalance in this relationship, which can only grow over time.
