Review: Mark Hill's new hair products range

By Community reviewers

We all have 'issues' with our hair every now and then - fading colour, damaged ends or the never ending attempts to keep our locks looking straight and slick. So when the iVillage Community got offered the chance to try out some of the latest Mark Hill hair products, we jumped at the opportunity. Here are the verdicts of our trusted Community panel:

Get Gorgeous! Turn up the Heat Extreme Heat Protection Spray

I have medium length hair, that I am trying to grow. The problem is it has a great big kink in it when it starts to get anywhere near shoulder length, so every morning I have to use straighteneners on the ends (about the end three inches). This has led to the hair becoming very dry, so I was delighted to try the Mark Hill product.

I have used it every morning for the past two weeks. You just spray it on, under or over any other product that you use (I use a volumiser), and it protects the hair after you have blow dryed - and in my case straightened it as well.

It smells really nice and it isn't at all greasy - and I am certain my hair seems less dry in the area that I straighten.

It's worth giving it a try and seeing if it suits you too.

Colour Blast Stop Traffic! Colour Shampoo & Colour Blast Shine On! Conditioner

I’ve been a redhead for the past few years and I have to say – I’m loving it! The only thing I don’t love about it is how hard it is to maintain the colour glossy and vibrant for months after I have dyed it. So I was very excited to try out the Colour Blast shampoo and conditioner.

The first thing I liked about the products was the cool packaging, they looked really hip lined up in my bathroom.

The quality didn’t disappoint me either. The smell is divine and it lasts for hours after I’ve washed my hair which is usually never the case.

The only thing I don’t like about the shampoo is the fact that I have to use quite a lot in one wash even though my hair is not thick. But seeing as the product is not pricey (£5.49 for 250ml), that’s not such a big issue.

The conditioner is amazing! I leave it for a few minutes before I wash it out and my hair feels super soft and hydrated afterwards.

Having hair that gets oily fast, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that it stayed clean for days after I have washed it with the Mark Hill products.

I have been using them for the past three weeks and my hair colour looks brighter and shiner. I would definitely buy the products again and now I’m keen to try out the rest of the range, too!

Straight-a-holic Give it to me Straight! Extreme Straightening Spray

My hair is cut into a bob and has a natural wave to it which if I blow dry, it straightens out. I also use straighteners but try and leave these for nights out as don't like the thought of using them all the time.

I've tried the Mark Hill spray about a dozen times during the trial and I love what it does to my hair.  It has taken the effort out of blow drying and my hair stays straight all day. The frizziness has gone and so I don't have stray hair flying all over the place which is really fab. I've used it with my straighteners too and it feels good to have something on my hair before I straighten it to keep it protected from the heat.

If I have blow-dried my hair in the morning but am going out at night, it means that I can just brush my hair and run my straighteners through it quickly and it looks as good as new which is a fantastic time saver, no requirement to wash, blow-dry and straighten my hair.

I think as well because my hair is straighter with this product than just blow-drying, it means that my hair seems slightly longer which I am really pleased about as my hair now takes ages to grow.

There is no sticky residue left on my hair - something I was concerned I would get and really don't like. Once the hair is dry you wouldn't know you had put any product on it by touching it, I can tell by looking at it as my hair is so much straighter and neater.

The only downside to the product that I have found is the smell, I really don't like it. I'm not sure how to describe it - chemically and perfumed all mixed in together.

Once I have sprayed the product on my hair and blow-dried it, you can't smell it. However if my hair gets slightly damp the smell is back until it has dried out.

I have tried persevering with the spray because I love the results and will continue to use it on special occasions but couldn't use it every day. I'm sure for others it may smell fine, my husband doesn't find it offensive but I certainly do which is such a shame because it really is a fantastic product that does exactly what it say it will which is give you fantastically straight hair.

The new Mark Hill ranges are available now, exclusively in Boots stores and at boots.com. Prices vary between £5 - £6 depending on the product.
