Spa review: Cupcake, Putney
Swollen ankles, back ache, insomnia, and all the other ailments associated with being seven months pregnant and mother to a 'spirited' two-and-a-half-year-old, you can imagine how I jumped at the chance to have a bit of well overdue 'me' time, and the thought of soothing away all those aches and pains at the same time was a very welcome prospect
My husband had booked me in a for a massage at a local beauty salon three years ago when I was pregnant with my daughter, but the salon didn't want to do it while I was still pregnant (when I needed it the most) and were reluctant when I turned up six months after the birth as I was still breastfeeding.
I eventually had to settle for a 'reduced' version of what I had been looking forward to so much. It wasn't their fault - they just didn't have the facilities or the know-how to treat me.
Enter Cupcake.
Cupcake was set up to cater specifically for pregnant and post-natal mums, and offers antenatal and wellbeing classes, seminars, and a place for like-minded people to meet.
Located just off Putney Bridge Road, a short walk from Putney East tube station, Cupcake is a place to escape the hustle and bustle of the big city. Upon arrival I was treated like somebody special (a welcome change after being elbowed and shoved on London transport) and was given a cup of tea and assessment form to fill in.
There were several events going on during my visit, including a baby shower, dad's group and the launch of the cafe's new menu, resulting in a buzzing and vibrant atmosphere. Everyone was very friendly, and I was made to feel at home.
