The end is near...

Christmas is coming and I am getting fat. It will soon be time for me to hang up my work pass, put on my slippers and get ready for some serious nesting. Wow, this pregnancy seems to be speeding by so quickly and there is still so much to do!

I am almost 28 weeks and have just four weeks of this school term left to work. I am officially starting my maternity leave after the Christmas holidays, but in reality, I will finish on the 23rd December. Again, wow.

Next week I will meet with my consultant to hopefully agree a date for my planned section. After this, I am hoping to relax a little bit and look forward to some sleepless nights and dirty nappies... oh, wait- how is that any different to life as it is now then?

Yes, the end of this pregnancy may be near, but the end to the toddler’s sleepless nights and dirty nappies is nowhere in sight, to tell the truth. Everyone told me he would be sleeping through by now. They also said that he could be out of nappies by the time the baby arrives. They said a lot of things.

My son is his own person. He wants to get up a couple of times a night, so he will. He also refuses to use a potty, even after asking for it. Is that so bad? He will be two in December, which I know is not too late to start to sleep and use the potty. We have time. It’s just that... I feel we don’t have time!

How will I cope with two babies up at the same time each night? Or worse, in shifts? How will I manage when two nappies need changing at the same time? Or, how will I cope when a nappy needs changing and a small child needs sitting on the potty? Can boys really be sleep/ potty trained in short lengths of time? Plus, how awful is the term ‘training’ for a living person who happens to be your child?

There are going to be obvious benefits to having two children so close in age, I know that really. It’s just that sometimes I forget and get bogged down in how difficult things could be. So the end is near, but a new challenge is just beginning. It’s going to be a bumpy ride!

There are probably only a few days between my Little Man and yours and I'm having the same worries! And Ben also refuses to pee in the potty and instead finds it hilarious to pee NEXT to it while shouting "Wee wee's in the potty!!!" The only consolation is they don't stay this age forever. We'll be nappy-and trouble-free soon, hang in there buddy :D
