The irresistible allure of pretty little things

By B.V. on 22 Jan 2013 No comments

I have a penchant for pretty little things, I’d be doing the wrong job if I didn’t, and that’s the beauty of beauty. You can be sitting at your computer staring at your never ending to-do list and BOOM! Something arrives beside you that can alter your mood for the rest of the day. The postman becomes fairy godmother and ta-da, your happiness lies in his hands.

Of course, not all beauty buys are dresser friendly. Spot creams, rosacea cover-ups and smeared fake tan tubes are best kept below counter…which reminds me – is anyone watching Mr Selfridge? I just love the way that only perfume and powder were considered acceptable for display circa 1909 while rouge and blush pointed towards prostitution and bolshie females who didn’t know where to draw the line. Splendid stuff.

But I digress. My reason for bringing up this beauty showdown is because I’ve found yet more fabulous buys that your make-up bag and/or beautifying area absolutely need. Accessories for the eyes as much as they are a practical purchase, Givenchy’s SS13 Hotel Privé collection (landing this week), in particular the Exrin Privé limited edition eyeshadow palette, immediately brought on a bout of beauty butterflies.

An understated quartet of muted taupe, grey, beige and milky pink eye shadows, while the colours aren’t eye catching in terms of vivacity, they are so wearable that it’s probably one of the most practical palettes I’ve encountered. Mica-free, which means the shades are much more intense and give a gorgeous even finish, all four shadows work brilliantly with each other so you can create everything from a cool smoky eye to a warm pinky highlighted wash – great for that no make-up make-up look that’s coming back for spring/summer 2013. It also makes way for a bright colour popping lip if you so wish.

Or, if you don’t fancy forking out £46 on some eyeshadows (surely the silver case is worth that alone?), how about you save £25 for the new ‘My Little Chloé’ limited edition fragrances.

Exactly the same scents as the originals, chloé signature, love chloé and l’eau de chloé have been shrunk down to dinky 20ml bottles big enough for the Borrowers to indulge in. Look at the picture and you’ll see they really are palm sized perfumes, and I promise you I haven’t got extra large hands!

Trust me, these are going to be on every lady's Valentine’s Day wishlist. And why shouldn’t they? They’re almost as cute as Bradley Cooper in black tie (I said almost)! Available from February 1st.
