The launch of Notting Hill's trendy Indian

By Liz McClarnon on 17 Feb 2012 3 comments

Everyone loves a good night out with friends, and in my job I get invited to some seriously fun events... one in particular this week was a real treat.

I took my mum to the launch of the most stylish and beautifully decorated Indian restaurant I've ever seen - Chakra in the heart of trendy Notting Hill. I could move in tomorrow, my dream decor accompanied by sensational dishes.

This launch was a pretty big deal too, walking in we were met by around 10 photographers and a few more once we got inside. The champagne was flowing and (strange to comment on for a restaurant i know but…) the music was absolutely brilliant.

I get the feeling this place is targeting the younger crowd because it was just so much fun (and I'm pretty sure I've never said that about an indian restaurant before). Gary Lineker, his wife Danielle were there, plus the quite charming Duncan Bannatyne seemed on form whilst fashionistas who'd flown in from Paris that day to be there and journalists mingled away.

Have I set the scene?! Good! Now for the food…

Throughout the night waiters and waitresses walked around with plates of nibbles from the restaurant. As the amazing smells of spices hit you, you had to be quick to dive in for one the canapés as they were really going down a treat.

Everyone's favourite seemed to be the Amritsari Kali Mirch Kebabs. But there is so much more to choose from…How about this gorgeous Crispy salt and pepper soft shell crab (pictured)...

Or One that makes my mouth water by just looking at it The Roasted Quail (pictured)

Ok then, and one more for you, Prawn Masala salad (i'm doing a very good impression of Pavlov's dog looking at this pictures again)

I just love the level of sophistication to the food, and i am completely honest when i say it was an absolutely great night with great food and matched also by the politeness of the staff and genuine kindness of the owners.
I have no doubt this place will be a HUGE success. So, if you're looking to go somewhere REALLY special and different one night for dinner instead of the same old, same old then please do keep Chakra in mind!
