Following a number of other relatively minor film and TV roles, Colin shot to fame, starring as Mr Darcy in the TV adaptation of Pride and Prejudice in 1995.

Such was his impact playing the role of Darcy, that Colin featured as an object of desire for fictional journalist Bridget Jones in two novels by Helen Fielding.

Reprising his role as the stuffy Englishman, he manages to come a close second to Pierce Brosnan in the 'Who Looked Most Ridiculous Lip-Synching ABBA Songs' award category.

More recently, Colin has been photographed looking proud. His starring role in The King's Speech was a testament to his prowess in the repressed Englishman genre. He subsequently scooped many of the most coveted accolades in the 2011 film awards, including an Oscar and a BAFTA for Best Actor.
