As a Blue Peter presenter Katy Hill had her fair share of adventures, but these days she faces tougher challenges - juggling full-time motherhood with a TV career. From Daybreak to day’s end, Katy and husband Trey have their hands full with a five-year-old daughter and toddler son. And there’s not a nanny in sight. This could get messy…
The Seventh Deadly Sin?
The Seventh Deadly sin……. Is to steal my son's middle name!
Yes, Akira’s middle name is SEVEN and has been for the 18 months he’s been on this earth. So now the Beckhams have 'copied' it and I’m not a happy mummy since I guess it’s gonna become common now?
Or maybe not, since it’s clearly divided a nation. And I love how people seem to feel such a divine right to comment on a name! How rude would it be to say to some new parents 'Ah yes, cute baby – shame about that awful name you’ve chosen!' It would never happen! I heard a woman calling her daughter in the park the other day and her name was TINKERBELL! Doesn’t exactly float my boat, but l’d never dream of passing comment. I guess that’s what happens when you’re a Beckham Baby!
Speaking of new babies, a friend of mine has just had a baby and was suffering the severe sleep deprivation of labour. When I visited and suggested since the baby was napping she should nap, she said 'don’t worry – I’ll make it up tonight!' Somehow I managed not to laugh right in her face! TONIGHT?!?! Are you insane?? Tonight in 4 years maybe! But your cosy 8 hours straight are a thing of the past now lady!

Ah …I remember those days well. I remember the tiredness of new motherhood hitting me like a tank. On about the third day I remember feeling knackered, but thinking Kaya would soon be in a lovely routine, and I’d be getting my required level of shut eye. Not so much! Here I am almost five years from that day, and now Akira’s taken over as the gate keeper to my heaven of sleep!
Ah…that little lady is turning 5 on Sunday. Where did the time go? We’re having a 'Princess Party' and she’s beyond excited. Poor Trey has no idea of the pinkness that’s about to take over his life! Our garden’s gonna look like we booked Katie Price to give it an overhaul!
I’m secretly thrilled she chose a Princess theme, since I figure this is probably the last year she’ll be into dressing up and princesses, and next year she’ll be all Hannah Montanna cool and not in the least bit interested in flouncing around a la Belle and co! So the invites have gone out (I made them myself…Mummy point for me!) and a REAL princess is booked to entertain for two hours! ;-)
We’ll be shattered too, since the night before we’re heading to the brilliant Battle Proms at Oxfordshire’s Blenheim Palace. Amazing. We went last year and it was incredible. If you like outdoor gigs with Spitfire, cannons, amazing classical music and fireworks, check out your nearest one at: www.battleproms.com. Kaya loved it last year.

Talking nights out and this week it was TAKE THAT at Wembley. My excitement was only halted momentarily when I clocked a bit of unfortunate bingo wing action as I clapped along! I loved the gig – although Robbie didn’t integrate enough for my liking. It was lovely of the boys to let him back in (!) and it truly seemed like the ego had landed. Even though he’s an AMAZING showman!
I felt terrible though. We hadn’t let on to Kaya we were going since she’s a MASSIVE fan of their Circus tour on DVD, but we feared a) this tour might be a bit dark b) it would finish a bit late and c) we wanted an adult evening! But she came home from school the night before and said: 'Mummy…. Guess where Miss Armstrong’s going tomorrow night? To see THE REAL Take That,' with a look in her eyes of such euphoria I half expected angels to start singing! On the night my mate Gwen made me feel better by saying: 'If you bring her to Take That aged five, you have nowhere left to go” and she’s right. If she saw a gig that huge now, she’d be ruined for life! Or so I’m re-assuring myself ;-)
Have a great week. Oh and I’m on TWITTER! Join my madness! It’ll be lovely to have the interatction. My twitter address is @KatyHillTV.
I’m a total twitter virgin but slowly getting the hang of it. I fear it might become addictive. Two children, a house to run and a husband to keep happy! Not ot mention a career to have…not quite sure where I’ll find the Tweeting time but I’ve lit the touch paper now so there’s no going back!!
Join me on the dark side!
Xx
The things they say:
This week, I was reading stories wth Kaya. We always lay cosy on her bed, heads on her pillow having lovely mummy/daughter time. 'Mummy'…she says and I wait, expecting 'I love you so much' or another gem to put in my mental memorybox…But no. 'Please could you breathe the other way when you’re reading or you might make my blankies smell bad!' Damn you garlic!

This week I’m loving:
Carlton Luggage
We finally got some new cases before our hols, and it was the best thing since they’re so lightweight, which means the baggage allowance was all possessions – nothing wasted on a heavy case! For once I felt a bit stylish travelling as a family, which is no mean feat considering the amount you have to take! And the main cases ones between the four of us, which was pretty good for three weeks of America! Styish.. and practical!
