The week in pictures
Shake a tail feather?
Beyonce Knowles normally looks elegant on the red carpet. So we’re a bit confused over her latest feathery offering at the ‘Schiaparelly and Prada: Impossible Conversations’ gala in New York, US. Seriously, what was she thinking?!
Pomp and circumstance
The Queen arrived at the House of Parliament during the State Opening of Parliament to give her speech. But despite all the pomp and pageantry, the speech didn’t deliver any good news to ordinary working people in the light of the recession. We can look forward to secret courts and online monitoring though. Great! *sarcasm*
Ali G does Gaddafi
Comedian and actor Sasha Baron Cohen attends a garish press conference to launch his new film The Dictator. Always one to court controversy, his new character is loosely based on the late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, including his band of ‘Amazonian Guards’. This should be interesting…
Depp’s ‘Dark Shadows’
Johnny Depp hits London for the European premier of his new film Dark Shadows, where he plays a vampire thrown into 1970s America. This promises to be a corker! Not least because Johnny Depp stars in the leading role and we love him. Love him.
Drop dead gorgeous
It seems as though Kate Middleton can’t put a foot wrong in the style stakes. Here she is looking absolutely stunning, as usual, as she arrives at The Thirty Club in Claridges in London.
Lampshade chic #1
It appears that Lady Gaga has finally run out of shocking ideas for her costumes, and so now she turns to the Habitat 2011 Autumn/Winter collection for inspiration. And ends up looking like a lampshade.
Lampshade chic #2
Unlike Lady Gaga, Florence Welch prefers a more vintage feel to her furniture-accessory-inspired outfit. Her ‘antique lampshade chic’ dress would certainly win fancy dress competitions but does absolutely nothing for us fashion-wise!
Monroe dismantled
The gigantic ‘Forever Marilyn’ sculpture is dismantled in Chicago, much to the relief of local residents. The 25 ft stainless steel sculpture was based on the 1955 iconic scene from ‘The Seven Year Itch’ movie, where the actress stands on an air vent and her skirt blows upwards, showing her knickers. Good in a film. Not good as a mammoth steel structure.
Olympic synchronised swimming!
The British synchronised swimming team get match fit ahead of the London 2012 Olympics. Hooray!
Bionic woman!
Claire Lomas finally crossed the line of the Virgin London Marathon, after 16 days. It may seem a long time, but Claire is paralysed from the waist down, and has managed the marathon using a bionic ReWalk suit. How amazing is that!
