Three new mascaras go under the spotlight

Apologies for my absence dear Muckettes, I have been burdened with the tricky task of moving mansion, however you’ll be pleased to learn that my bathroom is now palatial (ish) which gives me even more room to test new lotions and potions and report back!

But lotions and potions are not on today’s list of topics. Instead I want to revisit the issue of lashes – a subject I was meant to be updating you on post-extension experience!

Now, all-in-all I have to say I was a lover of them – the fact I actually left the house minus any eye make-up, not even a trace of mascara was a first for me. The only things they lost marks on was the removal process – taking off black eyeliner with a cotton bud is most tiresome – and when they were on their last legs, my lashes did look a tad slap-dash (or should that be slap-lash)!

Regardless of those baby blips, though, I’d still recommend them – especially with party season on the horizon, you’d be able to go from Christmas to New Year with thick-looking lashes, no effort required.

However, extensions aren’t always needed for every day usage and if you’re more of a mascara girl you’re in luck because this time of year always brings with it an influx of new mascaras – three of which I’ve been trialing for a good month now.

The first is Revlon’s Grow Luscious mascara, £19.93. New to the market at the end of summer, this has lash-boosting serum included in the formula that’s meant to up your flutter by spurring them on to grow as well as visibly making them look longer and fuller.

The verdict? I like the tapered brush that’s thick and bushy but this is definitely just for top lashes – coat your bottom set and you’ll be destined for panda eyes. I’m still using it though as it makes a great every day mascara.

Next on trial has been YSL’s new False Lash Effect Shocking mascara – the steepest of the selection budget-wise at £22. Now – I’m torn over this one. On one hand it’s a little bit clumpy and a tad gloopy but on the other, it makes lashes look super thick and plump and is perfect for getting that doe-eyed 60s gaze. My tip would be to use a lash comb after applying it so they don’t end up looking too spidery. In short, it’s a high-maintenance mascara that will give good results if you persevere!

The last lash enhancer in the spotlight is Max Factor’s False Lash Effect Gold, £10.99. Not actually on shelf until December and a limited edition to celebrate the original False Lash Effect’s success, you’ll have to be quick if you want to try it!

A plastic wand rather than a brush, I was pretty underwhelmed by this at first but I soon realised it’s just a case of building up the coats. Two or three later and you’ll be left with a full-on flutter that you’ll be able to bat until your heart’s content! The wand also acts as a brilliant lash separator hence the fact they look like falsies – because they’re so evenly spaced! My go-out-and-buy recommendation!

You could even do what I do and layer them to create my own bespoke mascara effect. Revlon and Max Factor by day and YSL followed by Max Factor for any evening occasions that require a more vamped up look. The perfect mix and match combination, mascara wardrobes tailored by event are the way forward! Now all I want to know is which mascaras are getting you giddy!?
