Top tips to free up time

'Free time? What's that?' is the common cry of the busy parent, but it's really important to find some time for yourself, no matter how hectic your daily life undoubtedly is

As a mum, you'll spend most of your time giving of yourself - emotionally as well as physically - but you can only continue to give as long as there are some reserves in store, and you can only build up reserves by allowing yourself some time out.

When you do manage to find some 'me' time, make sure you use it just for you: take a bath (with the door shut and locked!); lie on the bed and read a book or magazine; enjoy a 20-minute 'power nap'; paint your nails or moisturise your feet; do some exercise (you can make it more fun by having a go on the family's Nintendo Wii Fit) - do what you like, but above all, rejuvenate!

1. Let go of the reins

Take up all offers of help, from your partner, friends and family, and never mind if they don't do everything exactly as you would: after all, what's more important? That your babies' nappy sack is constantly replenished or that you have some valuable time off?

2. Prioritise the chores

Okay, so you'll have to keep on top of jobs like washing and shopping if you're going to cope with everyday life, but do you always have to pull out the furniture when you vacuum?

Might it be worth investing in some non-iron work shirts? Try to accept that you can't keep to the same standards you may have prided yourself on before you became a parent, and use the time you'll save for yourself.
