Planning a trip to Dublin? Before you decide on your itinerary, take a look at some advice from iVillagers who either live there or have already visited

Most of the shopping is on Grafton Street, its pedestrianised and has street entertainment. The really good shopping, however, is now based on the outskirts of the city in new super shopping malls such as Blanchardstown and Liffey Valley.

I'm an Irish girl and I lived in Dublin for a while and there's loads to do. The hop-on-hop-off bus tour is good, but I also enjoyed the Viking splash tour and the Jameson Distillery. Also have a look at the Irish tourist board website and www.visitdublin.com.

I did a bus tour, despite being teased for it by my friends. I was there on a hen night, but I wanted to be able to say I'd seen some of the place and not just gone there to get drunk! There are a lot of old buildings and churches you can visit, depending on what your tastes are.

You have got to check out Brown Thomas on Grafton Street. It's the Irish version of Harrods. You must also try and go to Davy Byrnes pub just down the side of M&S on Grafton Street; they do great Guinness and Oysters.

One thing to look out for is the fact that pedestrians tend to ignore the cars, so if driving, watch out, no one pays any attention to the red man!
The bus tour is excellent; it gives you the good places to see and a little bit of history. We also visited Trinity University, which has the medieval Book of Kells that dates back to the ninth century and is one of the oldest books of scriptures in the world.

Make sure you get to the Temple Bar area. It's an inner city area, which has been redeveloped and is a very trendy and happening place, with lots of pubs and super restaurants of very good value.
Stay away from O'Connell Street at night, as it is not always the nicest place to be at that time. Most of the undesirable elements of my fair land tend to congregate there in the wee small hours.

We visited the theatre to see Juno and the Paycock, which was about the Irish civil war and was really amazing.

There are many different pubs and clubs to go to. I loved the typical Irish pubs that played Irish music and are a great place to mingle with the locals.
