Exotic August vacations without bad weather

by Dierdre Rooke

question
I'm getting married in August, but don't know where to go for honeymoon. I was thinking of going to the Caribbean, but I've been told August is hurricane season there. Have you got any ideas?

answer
Hurricane season runs from August to September - however each year is different so there is no telling whether your trip would be affected or not. If you don't want to take the risk, and wish to relax after your big day, there are many alternative destinations you could consider. The first is East Africa - Tanzania or Kenya - where you could have a wonderful honeymoon, spending half the time on safari and the other half relaxing on beautiful, romantic Zanzibar or Lamu islands.

The next is South East Asia. Areas of Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines still have plenty of warm weather, but bear in mind the rainy season starts in August.

Australia is a wonderful romantic destination and, during August, the weather is wonderful - dry and hot in the Northern Territory, Queensland, and Western Australia.

Lastly, don't discount a getaway closer to home. Italy or the Greek Islands offer fantastic romantic options.
