How do I plan a romantic but affordable weekend trip?
What are your top tips for a romantic weekend away that won't break the bank?
I can't think of a more romantic break than staying in a cosy bed & breakfast, a cottage in the countryside, or by the seaside. You can't beat a hearty breakfast followed by a long walk, a trip to the local pub, delicious local food for dinner and, lastly, a comfortable bed to snuggle up in. These places often offer fantastic value for money. Try these steps:
- Contact local tourist bureaus in an area you fancy. The bureaus can sometimes be aware of last-minute deals.
- Alternatively, look for cheap last-minute weekend breaks abroad - they can offer great value because the exchange rate is good for travelling Brits. You can search on iVillage for city breaks, country hotels and weekends in Europe.
- Whether in the UK or abroad, look for locations that offer features that don't require big spending to enjoy - a new city or village to explore, inexpensive cafes for late brunches or lingering coffee breaks, interesting and romantic walks, art galleries, flea markets or pedestrian-oriented shopping areas.
