Tips for a fun-filled bank holiday

Desperate to find new ways to keep the kids employed this bank holiday? iVillage's enterprising mums share their secrets to help you plan a fun day out

Last bank holiday I took my daughter to see Chucklevision at the Grand Theatre in Wolverhampton (the chuckle brothers are on cbeebies). She loved it - especially the signed autograph at the end of the show.

Sometimes we go to Telford Park where there is a swimming pool, ice skating rink and a massive park, which has swings, slides and a climbing frame, sometimes a fair, boats, train, and an Alice in Wonderland mini park.

I recently went with my family to Luck Yard Farm (http://www.luckyardfarm.com) in Somerset. It cost £250 for seven of us for a week. We stayed in a cottage on site and helped feed the animals, watched the birth of a calf, fished for trout and rode horses. We also collected wood, fed the chicks and collected eggs. It was a terrific experience. Also, we weren't far from Minehead, so we had a day at Butlins.

I find a safari park is great for my six-year-old. She's not that interested in the animals, but she can run from one ride to another easily.

A great place to take the kids is Odds Farm Park(www.oddsfarm.co.uk) near High Wycombe in Bucks. They have loads of farm animals and the children can touch them and help feed them. There's also play equipment and a cafe and prices are pretty reasonable.

Beaconscot Model Village is quite near too. The telephone number is: 01494 672919. Also, why not head down to Bournemouth, recently voted Britain's best beach. As long as the weather holds up that is.

I've discovered that my 13-month-old loves to explore each blade of grass and daisy in a park. He loves bird watching - especially big birds like swans, ducks and crows. He loves visiting people's houses and exploring their gardens - which is usually less likely to result in breaking something. He finds things fascinating which I don't even notice.

We also found a Monkey Mates soft play place which is good now he's more mobile. Perhaps there's one near you?
