Top tips to trigger holiday memories

As the autumn draws in, that fabulous summer holiday you had probably seems like an eternity ago. But don't worry, there are things you can do to help your brain recall those holiday memories

Luxury tour operator Kuoni launched a research project into 'perfect holiday moments' to find out how British holidaymakers create and recall their favourite holiday memories.

Working with Professor Martin Conway, renowned memory expert from the University of Leeds, Kuoni has compiled a list of things you can do to help trigger your most treasured holiday memories.

Take lots of photographs

Your brain recalls things in snapshot form, as if it were flicking through a mental photo album, so be sure to print off your pictures for a holiday memory boost.

Martin says: 'Looking at photographs is very compatible with the way your brain remembers things so it is far more likely to help you mentally revisit your trip than watching moving footage such as a holiday video that you may have made while away.'

Tell everyone about your trip

There's nothing better than letting friends and family know what a great time you had on holiday, especially if they were all hard at work while you were having the time of your life. But now you have a valid reason to tell them about it again and again!

Martin says: 'Although you do run the risk of boring everyone with your holiday stories, this is actually a great way to bring back the warm and fuzzy feelings you experienced when you were away.

'Talking about holidays in a social setting will help to send your brain back to exactly how you felt at that time and place, so it is a really good way to help evoke positive feelings.'
