Adventures in South America

Meera Dattani has been a freelance travel and lifestyle journalist since 2002. Combining her love for travel with her career, she has travelled and worked all over the globe from Melbourne and Mumbai to Bangkok and Boston - for where there are Internet cafes, there is work for the freelance journo. It's now South America's turn - from backpacking around Uruguay to camping in Patagonia, it's the unplanned adventure of a lifetime.

The writer is travelling courtesy of www.ebookers.com, a leading pan-European online travel agency. The Patagonian Wilderness trek is hosted by www.intrepidtravel.com who specialise in small group adventures throughout Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, Australasia and the Pacific.

Week 1: Arriving in Buenos Aires

Overcoming last minute nerves and heading off for new adventures, Meera arrives in Buenos Aires, tries her hand (should that read feet?) at tango and Capoiera, before heading off to Uruguay.

Week 2: Carnival

This week, Meera dances in the street for carnival, enjoys rooftop barbeques and looks forward to a dip in the crystal clear waters of the Atlantic

Week 3: Valizas

Join Meera as she discovers beach life in Valizas and forgoes traditional luxuries for a simpler life in a beach hut

Week 4: Back to Buenos Aires

This week Meera meets up with an old college pal, defies death in a dubious buggy ride and returns to Buenos Aires for a mix of culture and football

Week 5: Trekking in Patagonia

Armed with a pair of brand new walking boots, Meera sets off to explore Patagonia and the vast glacial parks

Week 6: Finding penguins in Patagonia

This week we join Meera Dattani as she climbs the Towers of Paine, explores the world's southernmost city and meets penguins up close

Week 7: Wine-tasting, ranching and farewell

Join Meera on the last leg of her journey as she leaves the wilds of Patagonia and returns first to Buenos Aires, and then home to London
