Top 10 tunes to beat driving stress

Woman drivingIt's summer time, and the promise of good weather lures us out of the cities and on to the roads in search of day trips and weekend getaways

But for many women, driving is a stressful experience. A survey by Nissan Micra shows that the things most likely to make your blood boil are getting stuck in traffic jams or getting lost. Other things we hate are trying to find a parking space, and then once we've found one, having to park in a tight space. To top it all, driving in heavy rain is also on most-hated list, and we all know just how reliable British weather can be!

Behavioural expert, Dr Pam Spurr, acknowledges that everyone will experience driving related stress from time to time. While she cautions against letting it get the better of you, she says it's important to understand how it makes you feel so that you can take control of it and enhance your driving experience.

So, what can you do about it? Traditional advice suggests opening the window for fresh air or taking a break from driving. But an alternative that's proving very popular is to sing! And it's 70s and 80s hits that are the in-car karaoke of choice.

Admit it - we've all been caught out belting out some dodgy pop song while stuck in traffic. But what are you most likely to be singing? Apparently it's Bon Jovi's Living on a Prayer, closely followed by The Eagles Hotel California.

So, next time you hit the road, make sure you've got some top tunes with you, and sing them loud and proud! Here's the current list of top ten favourites. Bet you can sing them all!

  1. Bon Jovi - Living on a Prayer
  2. The Eagles - Hotel California
  3. Lynyrd Skynyrd - Sweet Home Alabama
  4. Fleetwood Mac - Go your own way
  5. Tracey Chapman - Fast car
  6. The Killers - When we were young
  7. Massive Attack - Unfinished sympathy
  8. Cindy Lauper - I drove all night
  9. Steppenwolf - Born to be wild
  10. Rolling Stones - Jumping Jack Flash
