1. Visit Gothenburg

Sweden's second busiest city is a convenient and pleasant place to make your base. A decidedly sleepy metropolis, allow just a couple of days to get a feel for this university town.

Visit the bustling Saluhallen food market for a slice of Swedish life and, if you ask nicely, some very tasty 'Prästost' - the delicious traditional hard cheese.

Take a stroll along the pretty Göta älv, Gothenburg's city-dividing river, and for culinary decadence, treat yourself to some outstanding cooking at the Michelin starred fish restaurant Sjömagasinet.
