For something out of an ancient fairytale, watch the sunrise over the magnificent Borbudor Temples while trekking on elephant back. Stay in the luscious Amanjiwo resort with its views over distant volcanoes. It is nestled deep within Java's rural heartland, surrounded by lush paddy fields, hills and volcanoes. Tanzania

Sleep under the stars in Tanzania
Nothing is more romantic than sleeping under the stars. And if there's one place you can forget about the rest of the world (which is what honeymoons are for are they not?) it is the Greystoke Mahale sanctuary. This Tanzanian haven is set on a far-flung beach along the eastern shores of Lake Tanganyika, below a huge tropical forest. By day, explore this incredibly remote location, studded with lakes and populated by wildlife (the chimps are top of our list). At night, star-gaze under the incredible sky from your own private suite that looks out across the white beach to the lake. The atmosphere will be one of total relaxation and romantic bliss. Best time to enjoy this African oasis is July to March.
