Vocabulary builder - antonym bingo

Children will build their vocabulary and language skills by playing this educational version of bingo. Introduce new antonyms as your child masters the ones on this list.

What this activity will develop:
Vocabulary, language and social skills

What you'll need: CardboardScissorsMarker or penIndex cardsCounters or buttons

What to do:

Cut game boards from the cardboard. Divide the game boards into 20 equal squares. Print the first words of the antonym pairs (see list below) on the game boards. Be sure to make each board different. Print the second words of the antonym pairs on index cards.

Players:
Game leader
4 to 30

Rules of play:

Have each player select a game board and ten counters. The game leader then reads a word from the deck of index cards. The players look on their game boards for the matching antonyms. If they find a match, they cover the word with a counter. The first player to cover a row horizontally, diagonally or vertically should call out 'Antonym Bingo!' The game leader checks the words covered on the game board against those called during the game. If the antonyms match, the player wins and becomes the leader for the next round. Players may change their boards for each new round.
