Ingredients

  • 125g soft margarine, plus extra for greasing
  • 225g plain flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 125g caster sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 6 tbsp milk
  • For the topping

  • 6 tbsp plain flour
  • 6 tbsp caster sugar
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 75g soft margarine

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/gas mark 4. Grease a 20cm/8inch cake tin and line base with greaseproof paper.
  2. Sift the dry ingredients into a bowl. Add the remaining ingredients and beat until smooth. Spread the mixture evenly in the cake tin.
  3. For the topping, mix the dry ingredients together and rub in the margarine to a crumbly texture. Sprinkle over the cake mixture in the tin.
  4. Cook for about 35-40 minutes until risen.
