Week one of Nanowrimo

By Susanne Remic on 09 Nov 2011 No comments

Those in the know will understand the acronym of today’s blog post. Nanowrimo stands for National Write a Novel Month, the crazy scheme I have devoted much of this last week to. This month I have joined thousands of other budding novelists around the world in a bid to write 50, 000 words by midnight on the 30th November. Here is my update...

I am ahead of my daily word target of 1,667 words, with 11493 words safely under my belt. That makes me 1491 words ahead. Woo hoo!

I have reached 63 per cent of my fundraising target, with 23 donations and £127 raised for the Birth Trauma Association.

I have 24 days left to write 38,507 words and raise another £73.

So far, so good. I am enjoying writing my novel and feeling supported both by family and by my fellow Nanowrimo buddies. I have even been brave enough to post an extract from my work, which you can read here:

This project is really important to me. Not only am I finally fulfilling a lifelong ambition, but I am also getting some important - to me - stuff down on paper too. At the same time I am fundraising for the charity which has grown to mean so much to me.

The Birth Trauma Association were there for me at a time when I really needed them. The Facebook group has been - and still is - a major source of support for me and so I am proud to be able to give something back.

So many women are not even aware that the charity exists. With extra funds, families like mine will receive the support and guidance they need following a traumatic birth. Every donation that I receive means so much.
