As a Blue Peter presenter Katy Hill had her fair share of adventures, but these days she faces tougher challenges - juggling full-time motherhood with a TV career. From Daybreak to day’s end, Katy and husband Trey have their hands full with a five-year-old daughter and toddler son. And there’s not a nanny in sight. This could get messy…
What a week!
We started with the most fun morning out EVER! I spent my childhood exercising other peoples ponies, dreaming of one day having my own. That dream never came true (!) but I thought I’d give the kids a taste of being in the saddle at Pony Pursuits in Oxfordshire. It’s run by the lovely Charlotte and their aim is to make horse riding more accessible, and their prices are amazing! I wish more places around the UK would follow suit.

They met us for a park ride with two ponies tacked up and ready. The kids were SO excited and loved their hack so much, they’realready asking me when we can return. Pony Pursuits also do riding for adults, 'pony share' for £20 a week and pony parties. It was the most magical morning. We even saw toadstools like the ones in fairytales…It’s only taken me 40 years to see one of those things!! Check out the pony fun at: www.ponypursuits.co.uk
I’ve been trying to be good with my diet this week since, with Akira coming up for two in December, I really can’t get away with the 'just had a baby' excuse any more for my jelly belly. Ugh. Dull. So I’m going hardcore! I need to get serious since Trey and I are going filming with Daybreak at the end of October, and horror of all horrors – it involves wearing a bikini! (me – not him!) I’ve been getting up before the kids in the morning (WHY would you??), and getting on the crosstrainer in the garage. I have to say, getting up BEFORE they wake goes against every instinct as a mother since my bed feels so cosy, but I do feel good, dare I say smug, to have exercised before they even surface! There’s also a lot to be said for having the time to down a cup of coffee before the madness begins. We’ll see how long it lasts!
With my new found fitness drive I found myself in Hollister this week. Which is a dangerous place to go! I never get to browse in there usually since it’s so dark and loud, the kids hate it! Trey had Akira so it was such a novelty to go in there alone and, even though I couldn’t see or hear (!) I somehow managed to let the 20-something hottie serving me to convince me buy some denim hotpants! No
doubt they’ll be going back next week, but it was fun while it lasted!
We ended the week with a family visit to Legoland Windsor. WOW! What an amazing place. Truly – if you’ve never taken the kids before, DO IT! I can’t recommend the place highly enough.
Unlike so many places, it’s totally geared for them so you don’t get groups of teens hanging around. It’s contained enough that it doesn’t take forever to walk from one end to the other and there are amazing toilet and baby changing facilities. The kids adored it. The food was also great, and the eating areas were clean and lovely.
Legoland itself is built on a hill and on a sunny day like we had you get the most amazing views of Windsor and the castle. You do have to brace yourself for the walk back up the hill at the end of the afternoon, or you could wait and take the train ;-)
We got totally drenched on the water rides but I took waterfproofs for Kaya and it was the best thing I did! I realise on water rides you’re meant to get wet, but truly, I didn’t fancy a day outdoors with a soggy child ;-) She was quite proud of the fact that she stayed
nice and dry!
A few Legoland Mummy Tips:
1) Give your kids a BIG breakfast! Legoland does the best kids meals BUT if you wait till 3pm to feed everyone, kids eat for £1 (instead of £4.95). Yay!
2) There are currently 2 for 1 offers on Nutella and in WHSmith…Running till mid-October.
3) Invest in an “I-Bot”. It basically saves your place in the line, so you don’t have to stand there with bored children!
It lets you know when you can ride and is so worth the investment for the lack of waiting and you get to ride twice as many rides.
I’ve also heard their fireworks are amazing. Might have to check those out!
Talking of counting down to bonfire night - I was in a toy shop this morning and they had a sign up...90 days till Christmas!! Yikes! And I did my first bit of Christmas shopping as a result!
Have a good week!
Filming with Daybreak so I’ll fill you in next week.

This Week I’m Loving:
Hippychick Waterproofs
I love the Hippychick website, and they have the best selection of waterproofs, at great prices. And lets face it, it rains A LOT in the UK, so there’s no use fighting it. No such thing as the wrong weather, just the wrong clothes. Kaya would happily stay indoors, but Akira, as a boy, needs to get out every day. So I need the right gear for both of them! I’ve ordered Akira one of the yummy all-in-ones and Kaya some new trousers and a pink jacket I know she’s gonna adore. Too excited for it to come. Just a shame they don’t do my size! ;-)
