What happens to your body when you stop smoking

Believe it or not - the benefits to health start from within 20 minutes of you putting out your last cigarette. Your body will begin to repair the damage done through smoking almost immediately, kick-starting a series of beneficial health changes that continue for years.

20 minutes: Your blood pressure and pulse rate return to normal

8 hours: Oxygen levels in your blood return to normal.

24 hours: Carbon monoxide has been eliminated from your body. Your lungs start to clear out mucus and other smoking debris.

48 hours: There is no nicotine left in your body. Your ability to taste and smell is greatly improved.

72 hours: Breathing becomes easier. Your bronchial tubes begin to relax and your energy levels increase.

2-12 weeks: Circulation improves throughout the body, making walking and running a whole lot easier.

3-9 months: Coughs, wheezing and breathing problems get better as your lung function is increased by up to 10%.

5 years: Heart attack falls to about half that of a smoker.

10 years: Risk of lung cancer falls to half that of a smoker. Risk of heart attack falls to same as someone who has never smoked.

I stopped smoking 7 months ago along with my husband, neither of us used ant nicotine replacement therapy. We are both 32 and decided to quit in order to save money and save us from future health problems! we also have two young children, so at least we are setting a good example to them. It was hard for a good 12 weeks or more but we feel great now especially now we are watching our bank balance grow!
I am now on my 4th week without ciggies on my 50th year of living, I started smoking when I was 15yo, without any aids, I just woke up one day and thought that the only thing that smoking was doing for me was causing me a slow and most horrid death, imagine dying because you can not get enough oxygen into your lungs, unable to take a lung full of air, think of your loved ones seeing you laying in that hospital bed gasping for air, what a depressing thought eh? Quit the slow killers now, I mean, if you are wanting to die it would be more humane to you and your loved ones if you took a pistol and shot yourself, think about it.
They should replace "smoking kills" on packs of cigarettes to " smoking will make you feel tired and look old give you a constant wheezy cough, bad breath and stain your teeth yellow, forget eating tasty food because in time you won't even taste it, your energy level will deplete as you won't be getting as much oxygen in your blood and with age you'll just get nastier and smellier with it as it rots your body from the inside" if you have any respect for yourself and those who love you just put that cigarette down and do something else instead distract yourself and within time the nicotine will leave your body and the so called craving stops. It feels so so good to be free of it and to spend my money on better things.
I am a woman and I have been smoking on and off for 25 years more on then off recently my chest started to hurt and my smokers cough was getting worse and worse, I was feeling tired by early evening and my skin was dull and I was beginng to get wrinkles around my eyes, smoking and my inability to give up started to depress me I managed to cut down to 2 a day but it still annoyed me that I needed those two. Finally I decided to read up on the internet everything that was bad about smoking and the detrimental effects on women's health, ageing etf, I was shocked to find that smoking can actually bring on early menopause by 3 years and basically takes away your youth, I became so disgusted with it that my brain just switched off to it and I couldn't contemplate smoking another cigarette ever again, two months later I am still smoke free I don't crave and I am just thankful I don't need them again. The brain is such a powerful tool that it can just switch and you don't need stopping smoking aids, you just need to known that there are absolutely no benefits to smoking and the more you find out about the disgusting things it does to your health the more your brain will say NO! I have warned my teenage son about smoking and how easily he can get hooked on to it and could possibliy never get off and he will live half a life because of it. Anyone can do it it's just up to you whether to stick another cigarette in your mouth and light it or not. It's really easy have some self control.
Hi just wanted to say I have also read that book and it does work I'd been smoking for 16 years with lot of failed attempt with NRT none of them work. I have not had a smoke for 19 days and feeling really good
I smoked for 15 years and gave up instantly without any drugs or replacement nicotine products. I don't believe in replacement nicotine products simply because I am trying to give up nicotine so how on earth can I do this by still taking nicotine? I may as well just light a cig up, have 2 drags then throw it away! I read Allen Carrs Easy Way To Stop Smoking. It has an answer for everything and does actually make giving up quite enjoyable. The problem with giving up smoking is the fear of missing out on smoking (you know like that first ciggy after a meal, I used to love them) but when you realise that you really are not missing out on anything at all it makes it so much easier to quit. It's about abolishing all the myths you tell yourself like for example - ''smoking relaxes me'' - it doesn't by the way, it increases blood pressure which increases the heart beat. The NHS also didn't help me one bit as they told me that I needed patches and things like that even though I told them I didn't want to go down that route. They basically said that I wouldn't be able to quit by going ''cold turkey''......how wrong they were. So basically my advice is read Allen Carrs book...it's class!!!!!!
I would recommend products from www.intellicig.com They work for me
