Meryl Streep

Meryl won the Golden Globe for best drama actress for her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady. The actress had the production team reaching for the bleep button when, upon collecting her award, she realised she didn't have her glasses and said the 'S-H' word.

Jean Dujardin

The French funnyman won Best Actor in the Musical or Comedy category for his role as George Valentin in silent film The Artist.

Scorsese scooped Best Director for Hugo - his first foray into both 3D and family films. The film follows a boy's quest to uncover a secret left to him by his late father.

Michelle Williams

Michelle won Best Actress in the Musical or Comedy category for her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in My Week With Marilyn.

In her speech Michelle paid tribute to her six-year-old daughter, Matilda - 'whose bravery and exuberance' she cited as the example in her work and life.

Christopher Plummer

Masterpiece

Not a film, but the name of Madonna's song - which she wrote with Julie Frost and Jimmy Harry - for her film W.E. The song won Best Original Song.

Homeland

The TV show won Best Series in the Drama category. Starring actress Claire Danes also took home her own Golden Globe for Best Actress in the TV Drama category.

Peter Dinklage

Peter won Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Miniseries or Movie for his role as Tyrion Lannister in Game of Thrones. On accepting his award, Peter focused his speech on the story of fellow dwarf actor Martin Henderson, who was attacked outside a pub - causing long-lasting injuries which mean he is unable to work. Within minutes of Peter mentioning it, the story had gone viral and was trending on Twitter.
