Wine of the week: Safeway Van Loveren Blanc de Noir

This week, Alice King will mostly be drinking this smoky coral-pink blanc de noir. Buy it now before summer’s over for good

South Africa is currently producing some of the best wines around. So if you’re looking for something a bit different, how about trying a bottle of Safeway’s Van Loveren Blanc de Noir (£3.99)?

Made entirely from black grapes, this fairly deep-coloured rosé is slightly off-dry, making it a good wine for food. While many people turn their nose up at a touch of sweetness in a wine, it’s the natural, residual sugar that makes this the perfect accompaniment to fairly rich dishes such as fish pie, smoked salmon, kedgeree and pasta with pesto.

And at £3.99, who can resist?
