How do I register my website with search engines?

question
How do I register my website with search engines?

answer
Don't bother with a service that promises to submit your site to thousands of search engines. There aren't thousands of search engines; fewer than 20 are important enough to bother with. Registering with the search engines is easy. Here are three ways to do it:

1. Do it yourself
Each search engine has a link on its homepage titled "Add URL" or "Submit Site". Simply fill out the form and click Submit. You can get a complete list of search engines from the excellent Search Engine Watch.

2. Use a free service
Several legitimate search engine submission services will submit your site free to about 10 search engines as an enticement to buy their bigger packages. Here are two that I recommend:

· Submit It!
· Register It

3. Buy a software package that will manage your submission
These software packages can be used weekly or monthly to keep your submissions current. Unlike a service that charges for each submission, you'll only have to pay once, and then you can manage the submission procedure yourself. Both of these companies offer a downloadable free trial.

· Submit Wolf
· WebPosition Gold

Good luck!
