Extending maternity leave

question
I am only entitled to 18 weeks maternity leave. Is there any way that I can have more time off work?

You should be able to add the holiday that you have accrued whilst on Maternity Leave to the end of your leave. Any holiday should be agreed with your employer in the normal way.

Also, if you have been employed by the same employer for at least 12 months then you may be able to take parental leave at the end of your maternity leave. Usually the amount of parental leave you can take is limited to four weeks per year per child, but you may be able to negotiate with your employer to take longer. You will need to give 21 days notice of your intention to take Parental Leave.

Or send £2 and an A5 SAE for a copy of our leaflet 'Time Off for Working Parents'.
