Maternity pay
I started my job when I was already pregnant. What maternity pay will I get?
You will not be entitled to Statutory Maternity Pay.
So unless you have extra rights to maternity pay written into your contract then you will probably be entitled to Maternity Allowance only. You need to claim Maternity Allowance from the Benefits Agency. It is paid at a flat rate for 18 weeks - £60.20 per week if you are employed and £52.25 per week if you are self-employed or unemployed.
From April 2002 this will increase to £75.00 per week and in 2003 it will rise again to £100 per week.
For more information about working parents rights see the Maternity Alliance website.
