I don’t want to go back to work when my maternity leave finishes. What should I do?

You need to give the same notice of your intention to resign as you would if you were not on maternity leave. So, if you have to give 4 weeks’ notice you should hand in your notice 4 weeks before your maternity leave ends. Your contract will usually state how much notice you need to give.
