Do I have to serve my notice?

by Work Rights Expert, Rachel Lewis

question
I am going to resign from my job at the end of this month - the day I get paid. I don't want to give my boss the required notice, because he really doesn't deserve it!

I'm still on my probation period. In this situation, what is the worst thing the company could do?

answer

There's not really a vast amount the company can do. Clearly, leaving so abruptly may have an impact on the kind of reference they give you, but that's about it.

Given that you are still on probation it is highly unlikely that the company will do anything drastic. Companies can order an injunction to force an employee to serve their notice but it is extremely rare.

Good luck finding a new job.
