Two job offers! Can I say yes to both?

question
After looking for work, I have found two companies that are showing interest. One is currently asking me to sign the contract tomorrow and the other is in the process of sending its offer. Can I sign both contracts (as I won't be able to make up my mind in the given time) and later, in a couple of days, decide what job I should go for? Is it legal? mathis2004

answer
Congratulations on the offers! In the UK, it's not unlawful to do what you are suggesting, but it might get you into difficulties. If you sign both contracts, under law you would need to give notice to the company you don't go for. This could take a while, and might (as a worst case scenario) result in the company trying to sue you for the cost of sorting out a replacement. This is very unlikely, but not impossible. Plus, it creates bad feeling if you ever want to go back to the company. I'd try to make a decision without signing, if at all possible.
