What do I say at an unfair dismissal hearing?

by Work Rights Expert, Rachel Lewis

question
My son has an unfair dismissal hearing coming up and, having read through my son's witness statements, it seems that the same person made allegations in both suspensions that my son endured before his dismissal. I wondered if you had any advice on the type of questions that he can put to the respondent during the hearing.

answer
Are you representing him at the hearing, or is he doing it himself? It may be worth exploring whether there is a local CAB or advice agency, which may represent him. When you get exchange of witness statements, go through the company's statements with a fine-toothed comb, writing down questions to ask about each point they make (for example - who made that decision? when? who did they ask about it?). Plan as much as you can what questions you are going to ask - and try to make sure that they are not 'leading' questions, but that they have an 'open' end to them.
