Finding your entrepreneurial passion

by Priscilla Huff

smiling womanMost people would like to feel passionate about their work, but what happens when you're not sure what your passion is?

One iVillager asked: 'How do you figure out what your passion is?'

Another member provided an eloquent response:

'I was in the same predicament not too long ago. Everyone told me the same thing: "Find something you love to do." I loved horses, but had already tried training and giving riding lessons, neither of which I wanted to do full-time.

'Recently, though, I started a horse gift business. And I found a job as a receptionist close to home and do my new business on the side. I hope that it will become a full-time endeavour in the near future. What you need to do is look for things related to what you love, and then you will find a job you love.'

That iVillager is right on track. Follow these simple steps and you'll find work that you love:

  • Make a list of all your interests and hobbies and then another list of skills and experiences.
  • Ask yourself: 'Could the two lists be combined in any way toward a venture?'
  • Start your venture part-time. Three-quarters of home businesses are started that way.

With persistence and some trial-and-error work, you can find the enterprise that will make you look forward to work every morning.
