Getting equal pay in your workplace

continued from page 1

4. Make sure your value is known. Speak of the skill, effort, responsibility, and working conditions of your job.

5. Use strong words. When describing what you do, use proactive words like 'lead', 'manage', 'execute' and 'implement'.

6. During reviews and interviews, draw attention to the worth of your contribution. How much money did you save the business? How many problems did you solve? How many new procedures did you introduce?

7. Talk to other women in your company and gather support. If you feel underpaid or undervalued, chances are, others do too.

8. Joining a union will help narrow the wage gap. If you are not in a union contact the TUC to find out more.

9. Use the law. If you suspect that a male colleague doing a similar job to you is getting paid more read this or contact the Equal Opportunities Commission for further information.
