Embracing possibility

by Lynne Franks seed logo
Lynne Franks talks about being creative with your choice of business.

The list of possibilities for combining your hobbies, your passions and your skills into a business are endless if you use your imagination. Within our diverse and changing world of technological developments, there is unlimited potential for both innovative and traditional businesses and new ideas, as well as old ones with a new twist.

Why not consider how many types of business you could feasibly be interested in, just in case the first doesnt work out? For example, if your passion is making clothes, you could consider designing and selling sewing patterns to fabric shops and quilting supply stores or to individual customers through the mail. This could be less of a risk and more enjoyable work than supplying finished garments to shops or individuals.

Or, if you find that there are already too many at-home pre-schools in your area (although there are rarely too many good ones) and you want to work at home with young children, its time to think about other possibilities. Perhaps you could combine working with children with your love of photography and consider opening a photographic studio in your home doing childrens portraits. You could take a course in professional portrait techniques to get you started.

Use your creative flexibility to envision your business

Lets take some ideas youve already got on your business and see how many ways you can envision using them. For example:

I know I want to work with animals, and these are some of the ways I can do it:

Create a professional dog-walking agency Start an animal rescue centre Open a pet shop Launch an Internet service to find people unusual pets Create an animal training centre Open a stable Start a non-profit organisation to save near-extinct exotic cats
