To lunch or not to lunch
I work in a really busy office and no one seems to take a lunch break, even when were quiet. Ive always thought the idea of taking a proper break is important but I feel that people are giving me dodgy looks every time I leave the office for an hour. I dont want to give in and eat over my computer, but I cant think what else I can do. Any advice much appreciated. Thanks
Those dodgy looks may be envy rather than disapproval. Maybe theyve nowhere to go or no one to go with. Why not invite one or some to join you during your lunch break? Perhaps they dont have the imagination to think of things to do for themselves. As well as looking for nice places to eat, find details of interesting lunchtime activities close to where you work, a concert, an exercise class or a swim session might motivate the desk bound into leaving the undemanding safety of the office.
If that doesnt work, or you dont really want their company do it for yourself. What matters to your employer is the quality of work you produce. If your lunchtime break means you work better in the afternoon everyone stands to gain.
