Kick the habit of self-criticism

by Caro Handley
continued from page 1

3. Repeat, repeat, repeat
Affirmations and positive self-talk need to be repeated as often as possible. That way, it really goes in, and it leaves less room for the negative stuff. Think of how many times during the day you remember something upsetting, for instance a rude comment by someone at work, or a job you think you did badly. Yes, hundreds. Well that’s how often you’ve got to start remembering the good things about yourself.

4. Notice the good stuff
Because, we usually don’t. We’re too busy focusing on the one awful thing that happened in the day to notice the kind comment from a workmate or the praise we got from the boss. Notice them now, replay them to yourself often, write them down and put them in a ‘wonderful me’ box, tin or envelope. Sounds cheesy, but it you go back once a week and read them all, you’ll glow!
