Will writing a book fund my pilot training?
Following a car accident two years ago, I took time out to do the things that I've always wanted to do. This resulted in me achieving my private pilots licence for helicopters. I've now started studying for the commercial licence (virtually the same as the airline pilots) and I am finding it SO HARD! (An arts graduate trying to do maths and stuff!)
Having already spent £20,000 on getting this far, I now need to find another £10,000 to complete the commercial flying course. A number of money-making schemes have crossed my mind but I dont know how to go about them.
1. I would love to write a book about my experiences. So, where do you make the first enquiry when you decide to write a book?
2. The additional money would be brilliant if it came via sponsorship. But how? I would re-mortgage my house, but as I am not in a full-time job I dont think I would be allowed to.
It sounds like you really have the determination to go for what you want. On the financial side, have you talked to the flying school with which you're doing your training about your concerns? Many have strong relationships with commercial airlines that offer part-sponsorship for training. Take a look at the employment and sponsorship section of Cabair College of Air Training , for examples of how this can work. If the place you're training through doesn't offer anything like this, you could try contacting airlines you'd like to work for directly. They may be interested in forming a relationship with you so they can secure your services when you qualify. There is currently quite a shortage of pilots so they may be more interested than you imagine. One organisation worth contacting is the British Women Pilots' Association, they also have some information on scholarships on their website.
