Digital Subscriber Line. This is a much faster way for a computer to connect to the Internet than a standard modem. A DSL uses telephone lines but it uses only the part of the circuit that is not used to transmit voices. However, its effectiveness does depend on how close the computer is to the telephone company. ADSL is even faster. (see Bandwidth)
