X Factor styling

As it's half term I've been falling way behind with my work and I'm finding it very hard to get anything done. So I downed tools and the kids and I ventured up to Oxford Street to have a rummage round the high street shops. We went to Topshop, Zara, New Look and River Island's flagship store to look for those elusive green military boots I told you about a couple of weeks ago! Despite the boots having appeared in various weekend supplements of late, the shop assistants still have no idea what I am talking about and still think I'm a little crazy ;-)

Luckily for my bank balance we went home empty handed from our shopping trip, despite me spotting a gorgeous backless jumpsuit in Topshop. I think the jumpsuit is definitely a trend that will be carried through until the end of summer next year and, of course, maxi dresses will still be huge and I love them for winter.

This week I went to two lovely launches: I popped by the Ivy Club for Jerry Hall's book launch, slightly more glamorous than high street shopping! I saw some familiar old (but young looking!) faces from the past including fellow models Paula Hamilton and Tania Bryer; it was so nice to see them again. I've included a photo of us with Jerry.

Another event I attended was Project D's perfume launch by Dannii Minogue. It took the form of an afternoon tea party on the 5th floor of Harvey Nichols and the kids were able to come with me. There I bumped into Tamara Beckwith, the lovely Beverly Knight and my good friend Linda Papadopoulos came too. We were overjoyed that the goodie bags had three different samples of Dannii's perfume - Dawn, Day and Dusk - all of which are gorgeous. Dannii kindly gave the kids and me tickets to watch The X Factor live this Sunday and my daughters are ecstatic about seeing cute boy band One Direction.

My favourite act from this year's show has to be Rebecca Ferguson; I would genuinely buy anything she recorded. Although, I have to say that I'm slightly disappointed by the styling on this year's series. Some of the contestants entered the competition with great style, but their individuality seems to have been lost in the process. This is such a shame and I think that if someone has a strong sense of style then you should encourage this and work with them.

Some of the female contestants have gorgeous hourglass figures and styling them in skin-tight outfits isn't necessarily the kindest option. The key to styling well is balancing out the body and working to your proportions. Therefore, shorter legs need high heels and hips need to be balanced out against the shoulders. During the audition stages of X Factor, it was clear Rebecca knew what suited her and she looked comfortable; I don't think this necessarily applies to how she now looks on the live shows. Coincidentally, the red dress that Rebecca wore on last week's show was actually designed for me by Ian Garlant and I have a picture of my daughter in it!

Product of the week: TNS Essential Serum by SkinMedica.Full of antioxidants, anti-aging ingredients and growth factor serum
this product wonderfully regenerates your skin. A just-for-face serum,
it is - admittedly - quite expensive but it plumps the skin and leaves
it looking very bright. I've been using the product for a couple of
months now and it's a great investment for your skin, although it does
have a bit of a funky smell! The product was recommended to me by a face
peel therapist, as I ask for the best product on the market for keeping
skin looking young (without having to resort to needles!).

That's all for this week style queens, will fill you in on all of the backstage X Factor fashion gossip next week!

Have a great week, love Lisa xx
